Ecologist and natural history enthusiast Amy Hall has been appointed as the new Chair of Jersey Heritage Trust, the Board that oversees the charity’s work to promote and preserve the Island’s history. Her appointment was approved in a process overseen by the independent Jersey Appointments Commission and she takes over from previous Chair Simon Boas, who sadly passed away last year.
Amy’s appointment coincides with the start of a recruitment drive to find five new Trustees to join the Board. An open evening for people to find out more about the Board’s work and meet current Trustees and Jersey Heritage’s Senior Management Team will take place at 5.30pm on Wednesday, 12 February at Jersey Museum and all are welcome.
Amy said: “We are looking for people who share our vision for Jersey Heritage Trust to be an inspirational guardian and champion of our Island’s rich and varied history. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone who is passionate about Jersey’s heritage and ideally, they will have governance experience and skills that will add value to our Board.”
Amy joined Jersey Heritage Trust as a Trustee in 2020 and is stepping up to Chair from her role as Vice-Chair of the Board. She also chairs the Trust’s Finance & Audit Committee. A trained ecologist and Director of Research & Training at Sangan Island Conservation, she says she has always had an interest in history, art and culture. During her career, she has worked for the National Trust for Jersey and Jersey Heritage, where she catalogued the charity’s natural history collection, as well as collections held by the Société Jersiaise. In addition to her role as Chair of Jersey Heritage Trust, she co-Chairs the Société’s Zoology Section.
Amy said: “These roles have helped to give me a further appreciation of the important function Jersey’s heritage organisations perform in protecting the history, culture, biodiversity and landscape of the Island. Taking over the role of Chair from Simon is bittersweet. He is greatly missed as Chair, and as a friend. I only hope I can be as good in the role as he was.”
The position of Trustee on the Board of Jersey Heritage Trust is a voluntary role and Trustees are initially appointed for a period of three years. The role involves, amongst other responsibilities, ensuring high standards of corporate governance; establishing the overall strategic direction of the organisation; and ensuring the proper use of public funds given by the States of Jersey.
Anyone interested in applying to be a Trustee can find out more information at www.jerseyheritage.org/jobs. The closing date for applications is Monday, 24 February 2025. Interviews will be held on Friday, 7 March 2025.
