Event time: 12pm to 1pm

While still a student of Contemporary History and French at Sussex University in the late 1990s, Claire was offered a summer job back home in Jersey, translating a personal archive recently acquired by Jersey Heritage from French to English. The archive contained diaries, address books, scraps of paper and photographic negatives in huge quantities.

As she began to compile the narrative, the significance of the story behind the archive became apparent. During her talk, Claire will share how she recognised that this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, one that made her feel like a treasure hunter unearthing a hidden, invaluable history about surrealist artists Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore.
